Agreed; updated Portfile attached.
This completely drops the gcc44 & cfitsio variants. By default, Fortran support (and hence pgplot, which requires it) are disabled. The gcc45 variant turns them both back on again.

gcc45 should only be the default variant if the user has not already chosen the gcc44 variant.
Is there really a reason why a user would want to disable cfitsio or pgplot support? Fewer variants is better, so perhaps the no_cfitsio and no_pgplot variants can be omitted.
