If it's a fresh install of MacPorts, what are you upgrading?
:info:configure /opt/local/lib/libintl.8.dylib: mach-o, but wrong architecture

Could this be a case of Migration procedure having not been followed?

What architecture is /opt/local/lib/libintl.8.dylib
? And what architecture are you trying to build?

In the end I did clean my whole macports as described in Migration page suggested by ryandesign and after that I could update and install the ports I needed. Thanks!!!
