This failure is caused by go installing /opt/local/include/ar.h which includes a struct ar_hdr that contains a 'name' member, not an 'ar_name' member. This shadows the system's /usr/include.ar.h, which is what gmake expects to be compiled against.

I hit exactly the same problem when I tried to install the latest boost (and 'go' already installed on my system).
After I uninstall 'go' everything seems fine.

I have filed this bug in the Go bugtracker: http://code.google.com/p/go/issues/detail?id=2407

According to the ticket on the Go bugtracker, the C header files should not be installed. I've just tested this with a sample Go program, and indeed it compiles and runs just fine without the headers on the system. I'll edit the port so that it doesn't install the headers, which should resolve this bug.
