Description
When trying to install sox through macports, I got an error... I don't know much beyond how to locate the log file and read it, so I am attaching the log file. Thank you for your help!

Looks like you have ffmpeg-devel installed. Try installing ffmpeg instead.

Yes, I removed the developer verison and did a clean install of SOX and then the other components of FFMPEG that I needed. It worked like a charm, thank you!

Thanks. Fixed port in r89414 to require ffmpeg and not allow ffmpeg-devel.

It would indeed be a defect of SoX if it failed to build in presence of ffmpeg-devel. However, sox @14.4.0 builds just fine when ffmpeg-devel is installed.
