There's no java variant anymore because java is supposed to always be built, but for some reason, the gcc46 port doesn't. gcc45 and earlier, and gcc47 and later, all do build gcj.

Replying to ryandesign:
There's no java variant anymore because java is supposed to always be built, but for some reason, the gcc46 port doesn't. gcc45 and earlier, and gcc47 and later, all do build gcj.
According to the comment in the portfile (added in [28cd71cff9711a97664bb485be6736e8548c17ce/macports-ports]), java is not enabled because of compilation errors.
Anyway, it seems unlikely that this will be fixed at this point, so I'm closing the ticket. Anyone please feel free to reopen if you are going to work on this.
There's no java variant any more, and thus no way to get gcj with this version.
