I had the same problem, it occured also when creating a new file, or opening one directly. I had originally built some gimp dependencies with +universal. This may be causing the segfault. I rebuilt *everything* in a different location without the +universal and no segfault occurs.

When you say dependencies do you mean direct dependencies or recursive ones as well? None of my direct dependencies are built with +universal, but if I have to rebuilt ALL of the dependencies, all the way down, I'm probably better off reinstalling MacPorts. That's hardly an elegant solution, imo.

Gents, I have the same problem here. It compiled fine, but freezes when I navigate to a folder with images (does not show preview either). Would appreciate a macport noob friendly solution.

Is this still a problem with the current version?

This ticket is nine years old, and relates to a MUCH older version of GIMP. Closing.
