http://merd.net/pixel retrieves a page offering to sell you the domain name; it should clearly be removed from the portfile.
The error is not caused and cannot be corrected as suggested by the MisbehavingServers page.

The home page of the project has changed and is now:
homepage http://rigaux.org/hexedit.html master_sites http://rigaux.org
-- though when I ran install with the modified portfile, I got
---> Computing dependencies for hexedit ---> Fetching archive for hexedit ---> Attempting to fetch hexedit-1.2.12_0.darwin_11.x86_64.tbz2 from http://packages.macports.org/hexedit ---> Fetching hexedit ---> Attempting to fetch hexedit-1.2.12.src.tgz from http://lil.fr.distfiles.macports.org/hexedit ---> Verifying checksum(s) for hexedit ---> Extracting hexedit ---> Applying patches to hexedit ---> Configuring hexedit ---> Building hexedit ---> Staging hexedit into destroot ---> Installing hexedit @1.2.12_0 ---> Activating hexedit @1.2.12_0 ---> Cleaning hexedit
-- the tarball is of course in fact also available from http://lil.fr.distfiles.macports.org/hexedit, so maybe no values are normally needed for homepage and master_sites.

Yes it is, it's exactly the situation described in the fourth bullet point. If the server correctly returned a 404 response, there would be no problem.
