Did you read and apply the FAQ on checksum errors?

Did you read and apply the FAQ on checksum errors?
Yes, several times. However cleaning and attempting to reinstall yields the same problem, i.e. that the server just gives me a html file instead of the source. I am fairly sure that the error is on the side of the Georgia Tech mirror, not my machine.

The error may be in the Georgia Tech mirror, but is most definitely not in gstreamer. I can checksum this tarball using the other servers MacPorts automagically picks for me.

how can i get the tarball from a different server?

This bad mirror was fixed 5 weeks ago in r90254 so if you're still getting it after a port clean --all gstreamer
you need to port selfupdate
to get the changed list of mirrors. If port selfupdate
isn't working for you you need to go to the macports-users mailing list

Boom. Fixed my issue. I think the secret sauce was that i was only doing
port clean gstreamer
rather than
port clean --all gstreamer
Thanks for the help!
Did you read MisbehavingServers? What is in the HTML file that got downloaded? (/opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/gstreamer/gstreamer-0.10.36.tar.bz2)
