yeahh, unfortunately though, latest xcode for leopard requires 10.6. that costs money, and the whole point of the exercise is to use free software and not give money to companies that exploit programmers without making full source available... *grumble* *grumble* :)

The latest Xcode compatible with Leopard is version 3.1.4 and is a _free_ download from http://connect.apple.com

aallrightallright :) ok i'll try the 900mb download (@ 30k/sec, the limit of the available internet connection) which will have to be done in 2 stages because the session cookie from apple will expire half way through the download.
i was kinda hoping to avoid having to do that.

I updated Xcode to version 3.1.4 several weeks ago. Nonetheless, I experience a build error as well. I attached a recent main.log from my system ...

Please try upgrading to Xcode 3.1.4. The error in the log...
:info:build /usr/bin/strip: object: /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_lang_gcc42/gcc42/work/build/gcc/libgcc_s.1.dylib.tmp malformed object (unknown load command 7)
...suggests that at least part of your Xcode installation is obsolete. To fix that you could reinstall Xcode 3.1.2, but you may as well upgrade to the latest Xcode for Leopard. You can get it from http://connect.apple.com/ .
