octave fails to build with hdf5-18 +mpich2

Description
Octave fails to build because of missing the MPI library. I guess this is because my hdf5-18 is installed with +mpich2. A solution may be adding mpich2 (and also openmpi) variant where an appropriate MPI capable c++ compiler is set, like the attached patch file.

and then try installing it again. Might be fixed with r114034 with the update of octave to 3.6.4.
