Description
matplotlib now builds for Python 3: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10570185/install-matplotlib-1-2-x-on-os-x-lion-10-7-4-and-python-3-2-2
Unfortunately, building matplotlib manually is hard and it doesn't work easily with dependencies that were installed as macport ports. So, I think this might be an excellent addition to macports.

There is not a release of matplotlib that builds using python3 yet, the page you link to discusses building from git. When there is a python3 compatible release I will add python3 support.
