Sorry. I'm on OS X 10.8 (mountain lion)
Also, if it matters, I have 'python3' symlinked to 'python'.
$ uname -a Darwin 12.2.0 Darwin Kernel Version 12.2.0: Sat Aug 25 00:48:52 PDT 2012; root:xnu-2050.18.24~1/RELEASE_X86_64 x86_64 $ port select python Available versions for python: none python27 python32 (active)

I had this problem also. My python was "none"; once I switched it to "python27" the port built and installed fine.
