Not sure where the problem is, I began by updating ImageMagick to the latest version (in r100181), which didn't help.
My next thought was that updating pango to 1.32 might help. I'll be investigating that next.

I've updated the pango-devel port to 1.32.3 (r100210) which hasn't helped either. Could you report the problem to the developers of pango and/or ImageMagick please? I'm not certain whose code needs to be fixed for this, but I don't think it's ours.

The ImageMagick folks apparently fixed this in a later release, see http://www.imagemagick.org/discourse-server/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22513
I'll give a try at using ports to get all the dependancies and then run a manual build to see if I can confirm the latest release fixes the problem.
In the future, please use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field and Cc the port maintainer(s).
