Is there any reason why anyone would want to use gtksourceview 1 when gtksourceview2 is available? Why not just update the existing variant to use gtksourceview2? Or even remove the variant entirely and let the port always depend on gtksourceview2. I'm not familiar with lablgtk2 so I don't know what role gtksourceview plays for it...

I'm also not really into lablgtk2. I only needed a version linked against gtksourceview2 to compile another piece of software (frama-c).

Looks like there has been some recent upstream work on this.

Git master now purports to build with gtksourceview2 and there is a mention of preparing for a 2.18.0 release.

lablgtk2 updated to recently released version 2.18.0 which supports both gtksourceview and gtksourceview2. Also adds support for GL and quartz although this latter is not well tested. Use variant +gtksourceview2 for the support you're looking for.
