Kile is not opening after installation

Reported by: lil.eyez@… Owned by: NicosPavlov
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 2.1.3
Keywords: Cc:
Port: kde4-kile

Description

Hello everyone!

I got a new iMac so I started downloading things I need. I first installed xCode and then MacPorts, because I wanted to install Kile. I used the introduction on this page:

http://www.tosnos.com/?p=28

The installation and everything went without any error messages, but if i try to load Kile from the launchpad, nothing is happening, the kile-icon just disappears after a second.

I tried to run kile from the terminal by changing the directory to /Applications/KDE4/...... and in the last directory they were two files:

Kile Kile.sh

I tried to run the command "kile" but then I get the message: command not found.

I have no idea how to fix it or what could went wrong in the installation. I hope you have any Ideas??

There should be no need to run Kile from the Terminal, as the double-clickable bundle should be sufficient. Some steps are however required after installation of KDE applications, as described in KDE applications.

So you are saying, I should first instal the KDE how it is described on the page, and then install kile? Was that my mistake?

No, not necessarily. I am just pointing out that it is necessary to launch dbus daemon and run kbuildsycoca4 to have functional KDE apps, as described on the page on the section "Steps required after installation". If these steps were not performed, it is expected to have erratic behaviours.

Yes! Thank you really much for your help! I did all of the steps and now it works!

But I have one more question, or should I make a new ticket for it? I realised that I haven`t install any latex stuff before I installed kile. And now when I run kile, it offers my just some file types like article and book (there is no beamer type for example). I then installed the MacTex but it is still the same. What can I do to fix this?

Kile is set to work with Macports latex installation, so that using MacTex would require manual configuration. However, Macports should have installed its own latex distribution as a dependency of Kile. It however installs only the basics, so that if you wish to use other features, you would need to install the required package. You can find the available packages by running

port search texlive

and install the appropriate one(s). A new ticket should not be created for that, as tickets are for bugs, and not for support (thus unless it is considered a bug). Support is typically provided through the mailing lists.

Glad the application is working, though, and thanks for reporting it.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
