Description
I'd like to reinstall my copy of nethack with some variants enabled this time, but I currently can't tell what the variants actually do because they don't have any descriptions. It'd be useful if they did actually have descriptions.

Agreed. The variants for nethack are even more inscrutable than most because they just apply patches.
