Failure to build numpy

No; as your output clearly shows, the failure is in fetching bzip2. Please clean, try again, and attach the mentioned main.log if it fails again.

% sudo port clean bzip2 py27-numpy
% sudo port install py27-numpy
% port logfile py27-numpy

Owner: changed from macports-tickets@… to ryandesign@…

The file exists on many of those servers. If you cannot fetch it, there is something wrong with your network that you'll have to diagnose and fix. Are any proxies involved?

What DYLD_ environment variables have you set in your environment? Although MacPorts ignores them, it is often an error to set them in the first place.

The DYLD_ variable is:

Well, that's the log for py27-numpy; Larry wanted the log for bzip2, which is the port that's actually failing. However, if it's just a fetch failure like you showed us before, it's up to you to figure out why it failed and how to fix it, since it's a problem with the network between you and the servers; the servers are working fine.

yes, I'm behind a proxy server

HTTP_PROXY=http://wwwcache.rl.ac.uk:8080

Is that proxy entered into System Preferences (Network section) and/or the macports.conf file properly?

It's in the System Preferences - not macports.conf. When I run selfupdate though, it seems to get through the proxy ok.

Replying to ross.stewart@…:

It's in the System Preferences - not macports.conf. When I run selfupdate though, it seems to get through the proxy ok.

Try entering it into macports.conf.

selfupdate uses rsync, not http.

It's fixed now. The problem was that the only thing set in System Preferences was the automatic proxy configuration (proxy.pac). I only had to enter the http proxy manually to get it to work. numpy is now installed. Thanks for your help

Great, glad that worked.
