claws-mail: cannot open display

I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and my ports are all up to date. When I launch claws-mail I get this error: 

igsmacbookpro:~ igs$ claws-mail
(claws-mail:21841): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

I installed XQuartz from ​https://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/ and still can't get the port to launch.

I use the program every day and I have no trouble. I'm guessing this is an issue with your particular configuration.

As a first guess, perhaps your display is set is wrong. What is the value of your DISPLAY environment variable?

As a corollary, did you log out and in after installing XQuartz?

Is this still a problem with 3.9.2?

The submitter never answered any of the questions about DISPLAY etc. I think we can close this.
