mplayer-devel hangs with a white screen

Description
Even with default conf it just hangs and only shows a white screen at the correct resolution (windowed mode). In some cases some audio can be heard but just fractions of a second.
My current installation is: mplayer-devel @36449_4+a52+aa+caca+dirac+dts+esd+fribidi+live+mencoder_extras+mng+noappleremote+nodvd+osd+sdl+smb+speex+x11

Not sure if this should be considered a duplicate of #43057. Is this a manifestation of the same libsdl problem?

This is definitely another problem and very unrelated to the one described in #43057. This one has something to do with the CoreVideo display driver.
Note that I can't reproduce this error either. Tested on 10.8.5 and 10.9.2.

Now it's working. I believe that by upgrading libsdl everything went back to normal.

Good news. Was your libsdl outdated or did you just do a rebuild of the current version?

Had to rebuild it from the latest sources

Closing as invalid (i.e. not really a bug) due to outdated/corrupted libsdl.

As a matter of fact, this same issue affects mplayer in the same way. I've just installed mplayer with the same variants as the mplayer-devel port.
