Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:
Keywords: Cc: rouson@…, smaret (Sebastien Maret), kurtjaeke@…, szhorvat (Szabolcs Horvát), sean@…, mojca (Mojca Miklavec), m214089, rouson (Damian Rouson), jse.mnl@…, petrrr, mww@…, larryv (Lawrence Velázquez)
Port: gcc49

Description

The release was on the 22nd: http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.9/
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-announce/2014/msg00000.html

This would also mean moving libgcc from being a subport of gcc48 to being a subport of gcc49, and making a new gcc410 port for the libgcc-devel to be a subport of.

Version: 2.2.1

And don't forget that the epoch of gcc49 would need to be increased, since:

$ ~/macports/users/ryandesign/scripts/vercmp 4.9-20140416 4.9.0
MacPorts considers 4.9-20140416 to be greater than 4.9.0.

Searching the available ports on the string "gcc4", the only gcc port that comes up is gcc42. Is it possible to get a status update on this gcc49 ticket and/or the missing gcc43 through gcc48?

comment:15 Changed 10 years ago by szhorvat (Szabolcs Horvát)

Damian, searching for gcc4 returns lots of result, including all of gcc42-gcc49:

akela:~ szhorvat$ port search gcc4
apple-gcc40 @5494 (lang)
    Apple's version of gcc 4.0

apple-gcc42 @5666.3_13 (lang)
    Apple's version of gcc 4.2

gcc42 @4.2.4_9 (lang)
    The GNU compiler collection

gcc43 @4.3.6_9 (lang)
    The GNU compiler collection

gcc44 @4.4.7_8 (lang)
    The GNU compiler collection

gcc45 @4.5.4_9 (lang)

gcc46 @4.6.4_5 (lang)
    The GNU compiler collection

gcc47 @4.7.3_5 (lang)

gcc48 @4.8.2_2 (lang)

gcc49 @4.9-20140416_2 (lang)

I still see the same problem and just added a related comment here: #44131.

gcc 4.9.1 has been released today.

Has this port been abandoned? Can anyone suggest another avenue that might yield a more detailed response from a macports developer or maintainer? Is there a mailing list we should contact?

I'll forward this to the macports-dev mailing list. I suppose you could also try asking some of the gcc upstream mailing lists...

After 3 months of without an update of this port and 5 days of no response on the macports-dev mailing list, I guess it seems reasonable to consider this port abandoned. Can anybody recommend an alternative? Maybe Homebrew? I've generally had good experiences with macports and haven't taken the time to evaluate/learn an alternative.

I’ll begin working on this. Apologies for the delay.

There is no need to jump ship to another package management system; someone just needs to update these ports. Larry, I can also look into it, unless you've already gotten started?

Can you also take a look of #43789 [update gcc 4.8.2 to 4.8.3]? Thanks.

comment:27 Changed 10 years ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Yes, I have updates for gcc48 (#43789), gcc49 (this ticket) and gcc410 (#43529) staged locally and just need to do some testing before committing.

Sorry, I got tied up this week with some other stuff, but you seem to have things under control.
