I fixed this by moving the kde menu file to kde=applications.menu, as in various linux distros.

... and the fix broke other stuff (blank config in kcontrol) so I backed it out.

BTW, the workaround is to port -f (force) kdelibs3. This means you lose some gnome applications from the gnome-menus menu.

Yeah, this ia a known (i.e. non-DP-specific) clash between these versions of KDE and Gnome. It looks non-trivial to fix KDE to use a different file. Is there a simple Gnome solution?
