Hello,
The following command ($ sudo port -vv selfupdate && sudo port -vv upgrade outdated
) gives me this now :
Creating port index in /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports Failed to parse file science/hdfeos/Portfile: Registry error: hdf4 not registered as installed & active. Failed to parse file science/hdfeos5/Portfile: Registry error: hdf5 not registered as installed & active. Total number of ports parsed: 2 Ports successfully parsed: 0 Ports failed: 2 Up-to-date ports skipped: 19933

Fixed in r124469.
Takeshi: The documentation at the top of the active_variants-1.1 PortGroup clearly states that
active_variants
will throw an error when the port isn't active. Just must wrap it incatch
.
