Description
Here is a small patch that allowed me bumping GNU coreutils from 8.22 to 8.23. The local build failed until I added texinfo as build dependency, then it passed the install phas fine for what I can tell.
This might not be the best way to fix, since it seems to be caused by the partial requirement of texinfo 5.2 (in macports, but not in OS X). Please have a look at the FreeBSD bug 192309 bug and how they fixed things.

I did not encounter the problem you did, but I did encounter another build error, which I resolved by disabling parallel building; I suspect the makefile dependencies are not declared correctly in 8.23. Hopefully the developers will fix that later. Updated port in r124494.
