Many icons are missing in Wireshark. Obvious ones are the plus signs for expanding protocols.
Running Wireshark also generates a bunch of error message on the terminal:

Can you attach a list of ports you have installed? It seems to work fine for me, I don't get those errors and I can see all the icons.

Reverted wireshark to use gtk2 by default in r127426. Moved gtk3 support to a variant. Please re-open if gtk2 does not resolve the issue for you. Assistance debugging gtk3 support is appreciated.

Sorry I wasn't responsive enough. Thanks. the fix works very well. I still get the locale warning and the UTF-8 warning, but nothing else.
I'll be glad to help debug it. Just tell me what you need.
(process:48391): Gtk-WARNING : Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Fontconfig warning: ignoring UTF-8: not a valid region tag
I have moved your long terminal transcript to an attachment.
