Description
Hi,
The bar has been at the same location for the past 10 hours. I have no way of stopping the installation or shutting down my computer. I wasn't compiling it myself, I just used the download provided. I'm on OSX yosemite 10.10.2 on a mid-2012 mpb. Any help you could give me is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James

Do you know how I am able to do that? Force quitting seems to just minimize the installation process, because everytime I try to shut down it tells me that I still have an installation running.

The first error message says
"'Install in Progress' interupted shut down. To continue shutting down, quit 'Install in Progress'"
And then another version of the installer opens up entitled,
"Your computer cannot be shut down now because software is being installed. Macports is being installed. Interupting your install may damage your computer. You can shut down when install is complete."
Edit: My computer also believes macports to be installed already, I am just unable to leave the installer.
Edit 2: Solved! Managed to kill the process. Thank you!

At the end of the installation process, the MacPorts installer attempts to sync the ports tree. If your network connection isn't reliable or slow, this may get stuck. You can kill it without consequences, but remember to run
sudo port selfupdate
afterwards.
