Do you have pbr installed? That module modifies setuptools, so it may be causing problems.

Issue has been resolved for me after nuking site-packages and reinstalling python27 (python34) and other py27-* (py34-*) ports. It seems I had, independently from MacPorts, pip-installed Python packages system wide. This port and it's py34 cousin is fine!
