I have the same issue. I also tried to uninstall and install ports once again. The same error.

This is after I upgraded to El Capitan, reinstalled all my ports, and ran port selfupdate many times without any problems (on the new system). I don't understand why it suddenly broke. I've tried reinstalling. I've tried uninstalling macports' openssl, and then put it back when that didn't work. Has the private ssl key changed?
