Installer stuck on Running Package Scripts on El Capitan 10.11.6

Hi!

I've been trying to install MacPorts 2.3.4 on my new Macbook Air, and it is stuck on the Running Package Scripts screen.

I assume that it is trying to download the packages with selfupdate, but despite the fact that I have a good broadband, it is now more than an hour and I cannot tell from the log (attached) whether it has actually downloaded any packages.

Any hints? Can I just kill the Installer and try to do the selfupdate through the command line instead?

You can check Activity Monitor or Network Utility to see if any information is being transferred over the network.

Yes, you can kill the installer and try sudo port selfupdate later at the command line.

Yes, I can see that there is activity over the network, but not from the MacPorts installer.

Yes, you can kill the installer and try sudo port selfupdate later at the command line.

Hmm killing the Installer does not seem to work. I tried Force Quit the installer and then tried to restart my Mac, but now I get the message "Your computer can't be restarted now, because software is being installed...MacPorts is being installed".

Well Activity Monitor, command line option, or either Force Quit could not kill this app. I had to hold down the power button to force switch off the computer (which is not always a good thing). Perhaps you should include this issue within your FAQ for future El Capitan installations. Clearly the self update option is not always working!
