gmic @1.7.9.1_0 hangs during installation

Description
Attempted to upgrade several outdated ports, including gmic. Source for gmic successfuly downloaded and configured. After attempting to build for 60-90 minutes, I get a window warning an application has run out of memory, and to close unused programs. Two other attempts gave the same results. Clang was the compiler being used when the build hanged. I'm running an Early 2011 MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM.

Updated to MacPorts 2.4.0 through selfupdate. Attempted to upgrade outdated ports, including gmic. As before, the application (Terminal?) ran out of memory after 60 minutes of build time. I've attached a log file for the most recent attempt.

I'm still having trouble attempting to build gmic. After 60-90 minutes the window saying Terminal has run out of memory appears on the screen. Is there something I'm missing; There's 8 GB of RAM onboard my computer, is that enough? Macports version is now 2.4.1. The log file for the latest attempt is attached.

The same problem occurs on the buildbot workers, and in some cases causes the entire OS to hang/crash.
This may be one of those rare ports where we should disable parallel building in order to save memory.

It takes my i7 iMac a fair amount of time to build gmic under Sierra.
I'll look into disabling parallel builds.

Thanks; with that change, I don't see out of memory messages on the buildbot workers anymore.

Could you attach the main.log file? Its location is printed by running the command
port logfile gmic
