Description (last modified by mf2k (Frank Schima))
Dear MacPorts,
I have just switched from an old Mac to a brand new one, with a new system image. The former user disk has been physically duplicated to the new one, so that all the applications have been transported, including MacPorts.
However, I got a failure message:
> $ sudo port selfupdate > > '''Warning: Failed to copy com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist to /opt/local/var/macports/home/Library/Preferences: could not set owner for file "/opt/local/var/macports/home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist": user "macports" does not exist'''
I realize that the MacPorts procedure has not been run on the new system image, so that the files are all right, but the additional hooks have not been run.
You might wish to add the relevant checks to detect this strange case.
Thanks for your very good work,
Luc.

I downloaded the package from the MacPorts site and installed it. It went very well, and the problem appears to be solved.
