Trying to install libusb-compat causes the following error

This library would be provided by the libusb port. There is an underlying problem to what you are seeing on your system, the libusb port seems to be corrupted:

Try to re-activate the libusb port to see if it fixes your problem:
$ sudo port -f deactivate libusb $ sudo port activate libusb
