notes repeatedly showing in shell mode session

After installing a port with notes, these show after every command during the same shell mode session. Example:

--->  Scanning binaries for linking errors
--->  No broken files found.                             
--->  Some of the ports you installed have notes:
  screen has the following notes:
    Any screens running before upgrading, will not be available, post-install.
[test/Desktop] > 
[test/Desktop] > echo leaves

None of the specified ports are installed.
