Still can't build pine (on OD 7.2.1 / x86):

Including LDAP functionality
File /System/Library/OpenSSL/certs/factory.pem is missing This might indicate that CA certs did not get properly installed. If you get certificate validation failures in Pine, this might be the reason for them.

OpenDarwin is no longer supported. This compiles well on OS X so it can be closed.
updated to 4.64 and switched to the .tar.Z tarball that gets archived;
