wget fails compiling in High Sierra with message: "Failed to patch wget: command execution failed" Please see attached log for more information. Thanks.

It is possible that the extract phase failed earlier, but the failure was not noticed. As this was not a clean attempt, the extract phase is missing from the log. Please check if your /opt/local/bin/xz actually works.

As you likely upgraded from a previous version of macOS, please do a full Migration.
