Description
I am on a MacBook Pro running macOS 10.11.6. My MacPorts tree was recently updated. I did a fresh install of Abiword as so:
$ sudo port install abiword ---> Fetching archive for abiword ---> Attempting to fetch abiword-2.4.5_0+use_binary.darwin_15.x86_64.tbz2 from https://packages.macports.org/abiword ---> Attempting to fetch abiword-2.4.5_0+use_binary.darwin_15.x86_64.tbz2.rmd160 from https://packages.macports.org/abiword ---> Installing abiword @2.4.5_0+use_binary ---> Activating abiword @2.4.5_0+use_binary ---> Cleaning abiword ---> Updating database of binaries ---> Scanning binaries for linking errors ---> No broken files found.
AbiWord.app is installed to /Applications/MacPorts/AbiWord.app
Finder says the file was created August 10, 2006, and that it was modified today at 9pm
Double-clicking the app gives me an error dialog with the message up in the subject line.
To be certain - I deleted AbiWord.app and emptied the trash, then reran the above command to get the same behavior. I notice that the version number shown here, 2.4.5, is really old, and that on abisource.org they say 3.0.2 is the latest version.

Note that there is a separate abiword-x11 port, if you can stand an X11 version. It is a newer version than the abiword port and it does build.

Wow. Old port. No maintainer.
Downloaded a premade binary that is obviously really old. Needs updating.
The source version doesn't build either at the moment, I just tried. Looks like you'll need to find it elsewhere or wait for it to be updated to the current version.
