The log showed a failing bzr check. So I installed bzr manually to fix this.

intltool builds for the rest of us. Please attach the main.log and config.log so we can see what went wrong on your system.

I am sorry, but I can not provide the log and reproduce the error. I tried by deinstalling bzr and intltool and installing intltool again. This time things went with no issue. I suggest to keep the hint around that if the bzr check fail is seen in the log installing bzr is a workaround that will eventually get the upgrade going. My environment is MacOs High Sierra MacPorts 2.4.2.
Thanks for pointing out how to properly use the bug tracker here. E.g. for this comment I see the options in my browser. Somehow i missed this when I tried to edit the bug in the first place. At least I could not modifiy the relevant fields after the initial commit of the bug report. May be that is a permission issue.

In the future, please use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field with the port that fails to build and Cc the port maintainers.
