#56310 new defect

compilers-1.0 portgroup suggests the use a variant that may not exist

Reported by: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt) Owned by:

Port: compilers

Description

The compilers portgroup can print this message:

must set at least one Fortran variant (e.g. +gfortran, +gccX, +g95)

But it prints this message even if the port in question doesn't offer all of those variants, leading to user confusion.

For example, here, upon seeing this message, the user tried installing the port with +gfortran, only to see the message again, because the port didn't actually provide a gfortran variant:

We should just remove the variant suggestions from the message, let the user decide which to pick.
