looks like this will require a new port, libsdl2_gfx <http://www.ferzkopp.net/wordpress/2016/01/02/sdl_gfx-sdl2_gfx/>, if we want the sdl2 version.
Progress can be made with the sdl1 version by passing in
--disable-sdl-mixerhowever..
