The meson-1.0.tcl portgroup has this comment:

As far as I know, that's no longer a problem?

The upstream issue is still open; I don't know why. Looks like it got repurposed into a desire to be able to use rpath.

Yes, I think that is fixed now.

It is quite difficult to force meson to not use rpaths on Darwin, in the end. Hacking required (ugh).
