Looks like it needs the libtool OS version detection fix.

Any hints what a mere user can do to fix his or her ports tree?

I have reinstalled the xcode command line tools, executed every helpful hint I have so far found around the tracker, and still get the same result.
Is there any way to restore sanity to the MacPorts tree under Big Sur?

Replying to michaelld:
See PR https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/9146
Worked for me until building w3m failed. But thanks!! Off to look for a w3m issue.
