On Mac Mojave and MacPorts 2.6.4 , when trying to install mpich-default 

sudo port install mpich-default

We've made some changes to this port over the past six weeks, including how we utilize hwloc. And it's possible that your issue may be fixed.

Can you try installing again, after running sudo port clean --all mpich-default?

Yhank you for your help. I have a new problem. Error: Failed to build mpich-default: command execution failed Error: See /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_science_mpich/mpich-default/main.log for details. I have attached the main.log file

Lionel, can you update your MacPorts installation with sudo port selfupdate?

Then run sudo port clean --all mpich-default, followed by sudo port -N install mpich-default.
