Python24 build failure on new dports installation

Attempting to install port "gnome" on a clean dp 1.200 / mac os x 10.4.3 / xcode 2.2 installation, I got the following error activating python24:

Further investigation reveals that this is probably the result of some cruft from an older dports installation.
