Port: openbabel added; openbabel2 removed
Summary: openbabel2 (3.1.1) Library not loaded error on MacOS Monterey Intelopenbabel (3.1.1) Library not loaded error on MacOS Monterey Intel

I'm guessing you meant the openbabel port rather than openbabel2, as the version of the former is 3.1.1 whereas the latter is 2.4.1.

I apologize for the mistake. I guess I am confused. I installed openbabel2 (verified from shell history), and the error message points to openbabel-3.1.1 (path is to /opt/local/openbabel-3.1.1).

...

I removed openbabel2 - this port still doesn't work. However, uninstalling openbabel2 and installing openbabel works.

Thank you for your attention.

That looks like it could be an installation of a binary pkg of openbabel 3 that someone built using MacPorts. If your prefix is /opt/local, neither the openbabel nor openbabel2 ports install anything under /opt/local/openbabel-3.1.1.
