As far as I understand from the dev's comment below, the persist
option is unsupported by default and has to be enabled at build time
Would you please add such a variant?

This has to be enabled explicitly at build time by running configure with --with-timestamp, the gentoo build doesn't do that.

I just tried to enabled this, and the timestamp support is Linux-only, see https://github.com/Duncaen/OpenDoas/issues/109; I'll close this issue as invalid, as it's not a bug in MacPorts, strictly speaking.
