This port has been essentially untouched since it was added back in 2010. Back then, users who wanted to use Java software (like batik) were expected to install Java themselves. In fact, it came with Mac OS X. Java doesn't come with macOS anymore but if you were to install the current version of Java outside of MacPorts, that might suffice.
These days, we have various versions of Java available as ports in MacPorts, and we have the java-1.0 portgroup to help ports use those Java ports automatically. This port has no maintainer. Help in updating it to modern standards is welcomed.
