It's not clear to me how to start libvirtd. I'm trying to use it with virt-manager. Should there be a startup item?

This doesn't seem necessary. libvirt autostarts unless the environment variable LIBVIRT_AUTOSTART
is set to 0.

What autostarts libvirt, if not a startupitem?

The library itself starts the daemon as required when trying to connect to it locally.

I don't know! Should there be? I've never used libvirt, I just keep the port updated.
