Adding
configure.env CC=/opt/local/bin/gcc-dp-4.0 CXX=/opt/local/bin/g++-dp-4.0
wins for me. (gcc40 @4.0.4_0+darwin_7)

Hi, in the future please be kind enough to assign issues to the port maintainer(s). We just can't see the bug unless crawling days and nights in Trac.
I've just committed a fix that I believe would make it behave. Can you please check it? Just deinstall/clean/reinstall, because I won't bump the revision.

I no longer have to support users using Panther, so I gave up -- it is not worth fighting with MacPorts.
As for assigning bugs to port maintainers, it's not going to happen. There's no visible way to do it. I'm updating bug #11376.
