Description
port "autoconf" currently depends on port "perl5.8".
port "perl5.8" is perl 5.8.8.
MacOS 10.5.0 ships with Perl 5.8.8 in /usr/bin/.
This means that installing autoconf causes me to have two different -- yet identical -- copies of perl on my system. This is annoying, because it means, among other things, that any time I CPAN a perl module, I have to install it twice.
I think it's unlikely that autoconf is sensitive to the exact version of m4 (1.4.10 in ports versus 1.4.6 from Apple) but that's not nearly so annoying since m4 is a lot smaller than perl.
