giflib-4.1.6 Configure error - build failure

giflib has a configure error on my powerbook g4 ppc. I'll attach the config.log, but here's the relevant error from config.log:

What version of Xcode do you have installed? For 10.5, make sure it's either 3.0 (available on the 10.5 DVD), or 3.1 (available ​for download).

once I upgraded Xcode to v2.4.1 from the leopard dvd ( I had an old version before)- it worked like a charm. Thanks for the help & sorry for the trouble.

I upgraded from Xcode 2.4.1 to Xcode 3.0 and that fixed everything. I wasn't clear before.
