Significance: libcanberra is required by xulrunner, which is required by yelp, which is required by gnucash-docs. What I'm really after is to install gnucash-docs. I made a temporary workaround by removing yelp as a requirement for gnucash-docs.

Is your gtk2 install a +quartz one? If so, perhaps libcanberra expects an X11-based gtk2. It may be possible to disable gtk support in libcanberra, as I do see --enable-gtk in configure.args for it, possibly in a +no_x11 variant?

Is my gtk2 install a +quartz one? Great question.

What I have I have mostly because gnucash needed it, and my gnucash is +no_x11 -x11 +quartz .

Here's the info on my gtk2. I'm not sure how to interpret the (+) and (-) in the second line.

% port info gtk2
gtk2 @2.16.1, Revision 4 (x11)
Variants: darwin_7, darwin_8, (+)no_x11, (+)quartz, universal, (-)x11

This is GTK+ version 2.x. GTK+, which stands for Gimp ToolKit, is a library for
creating GUIs for the X Windows System.
Homepage: http://www.gtk.org/

Build Dependencies: pkgconfig
Library Dependencies: cairo, fontconfig, freetype, glib2, jpeg, tiff, libiconv,
libpng, jasper, atk, pango, gettext, zlib, xorg-libXi,
                      xorg-libXrandr, xorg-libXcursor, xorg-libXinerama,
                      xorg-libXdamage, xorg-libXcomposite, xorg-libXfixes
Runtime Dependencies: shared-mime-info
Platforms: darwin
Maintainers: nox@macports.org openmaintainer@macports.org

Does the above say that my gtk2 install is a +quartz one?

Is there a MacPorts variant of libcanberra which is +quartz? What's the right way to set up the dependencies so that gnucash-docs tells (yelp which tells xulrunner which tells) libcanberra to be +quartz?

port info gtk2 tells you about what's available in the ports tree. You want port installed gtk2.

comment:4 in reply to:  3 Changed 16 years ago by JDLH (Jim DeLaHunt)

Replying to jmr@…:

port info gtk2 tells you about what's available in the ports tree. You want port installed gtk2.

Ah, right you are!

% port installed gtk2
The following ports are currently installed:
  gtk2 @2.14.7_1+no_x11+quartz
  gtk2 @2.16.1_4+no_x11+quartz (active)

I interpret this as saying that my gtk2 is +quartz and +no_x11. I don't see a -x11.

So, does libcanberra expect a X11-based gtk2? Is it possible gtk support in libcanberra ? My overarching goal is to propose a modification to make yelp build and run in the +quartz and +no_x11 case of gnucash-docs.

libcanberra 0.16 and macports 1.8.0

I can still confirm this bug. Quartz gtk doesn't have gdk/gdkx.h which is needed by libcanberra when passing --enable-gtk (default flag) so it expects X11 enabled gtk. Passing --disable-gtk builds fine but I'm yet to find out if that will be usefull in building xulrunner.

Do we still see the problem with libcanberra 0.25?

comment:7 Changed 14 years ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Summary: libcanberra_0.12 - build failurelibcanberra build failure when gtk2 +no_x11 +quartz installed

comment:8 Changed 14 years ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Has duplicate #25776 which shows the problem does still occur with version 0.25.

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Fixed, r77611.

Might even work, too. (Please test)
